I always loved the end of the summer, almost as much as I loved the beginning of the summer.
The beginning of the summer, as a kid, meant this long open space of time to read, to play, to do "arts and crafts" with my mum, to go swimming, and just to lay on the grass and stare at the sky.
I always imagined the span of time that the summer held, as a long field, with a few hills, a rope swing by a pond, and a hammock to read in. The field was endlessly long, with all my favorite summer things along the way, and I never could see the end until it was time to go school shopping.
New shoes, new pencils, the smell of my new clothes, and the beautiful field starts to fade. Deciding which papers I would use to cover my school books, and how many new clean notebooks I would need became the center of my world.
