Gypsy Bolero .:. My Kinda Colour Project
So here I am deep into the Gypsy Bolero by Mags Kandis. Because it is a Bolero, and because the person I am making it for is a tiny size, it is knitting up fast, fast, fast. Have the back, both fronts and one sleeve finished!
In my original schematic, I was going to use a red, but when I knitted it up it just screamed, "hey, look some red here in a sea of purple, lavenders and periwinkles". So I took it out and replaced it with a lavender, I think it is working much better, and since the person it will be gifted to is a loyal purple/lavender/periwinkle supporter, I think she'll be much happier without a pattern repeat that screams, "red".
Isn't it fun (and sometimes irritating) to realise what you have worked up in your mind or on paper does not always turn out in "real life" looking the same as you have envisioned it? Luckily this is not one of those scary colour projects where you have 4 balls of colour tangled up at the back of your knitting, just 2 at any given time, and an easy process to rip out 10 or so rows.
After all my colour yearnings, and colour scrapping, and colour swatching, and colour talking and then colour quitting: I think I have come to a compromise that will work for both myself and the needles, 2 colours. Just 2 strings to deal with, no big tangles, and in this project, I get a sea of beautiful colours to complement and contrast each other in a happy family kind of way.
Am off for 10 days to several parts northeast, say a prayer that it is chilly enough to wear the Morning Glory whilst I am there, and hopefully I will have some photos of the shrug I am working up in the ever so lovely Malabrigo worsted in the Cognac colour.

I have always wanted to do a project like this lovely colors.I love your banner to.Hugs Darcy

Look at all your gorgeous projects. And I am glad to see you are doing some color knitting! It's not so bad :) I hope you had a nice trip back home. September was a nice time to go.

That bolero is darling. I love the colorwork pattern.

I'll bet it will be perfect shawl-wearing weather in the NE! Have a great trip.
I've got some laceweight Malabrigo in Cognac, which I'm saving for "just the right" project.... whatever that may be.

Gorgeous color palette! I like your idea about the colorwork. Any more than two strands and I get hopelessly confused.
