"Orange is red brought nearer to humanity by yellow." -Kandinsky
It seems it is the perfect week for my orange get together. There has been orange abounding out in the world: leaves, pumpkins, and today I saw some orange rain boots, walking down the street, stomping in the puddles.
It is the first rain here since May. I love the rain, I love the early beginnings of fall. The crisp smell in the air, the leaves beginning their changes, the preperations for Halloween, and the first wearing of socks in 5 or 6 months. Ah, how I love the first time for donning socks in the fall.
So, my week long triste with orange has gone ever so better than I would have imagined. I am seeing orange everywhere, and celebrating the bright!
I will no longer: overlook it's warmth and caring glow.
I will no longer: immediately bypass it for a green or a mauve, when orange could be just the colour to make a design sing.
I will take the advice of a friend and remember that it is all about warmth and nurture, and FALL, my favourite time of year.
In some other wise words from Vincent van Gogh: There is no blue without yellow and without orange. And since blue is a favourite hue, to think of the world without blue, and without orange or yellow, it would truly be a sad and forlorn place. How would the sea dance? Or the sun shine? How would I swish my feet through a path decorated with golden leaves under the deepest azure sky?
How would a sunflower nod it's wise old head at me? My daylilies open their eyes each morning and glow?
To look at ONE colour, to study and observe it, to think about how to fold it in, like stirring in the corn and squash to a soup that has been bubbling on the stove all day, it's a wonderful thing. I would truly and strongly suggest to one and all: pick a colour you don't feel friendly with, and visit it often, contemplate and converse with it, tell each other stories, run your fingers through it's hair and perhaps even have a slow dance.
Yup, Rilke knows the tune: Dance the Orange!
Oooo, fantastic samples of oranges in this post! I *need* those Chuck Taylors! :-)
