Some Things Said, about Red

"When in doubt wear red."

that's a Bill Blass quote . . . I can't say as I have ever been in that mind set. My "in doubt" fallback has always been black, or deep eggplant, forest green, darkest plum. Even when I am sure, it is any of those colours, and when feeling daring, perhaps a taupe, or an olive green.

What is it about wearing red? In my mind there is a boldness associated with it, a sure-ness, a certainty that you are who you are meant to be, in touch with all your energy, right in this moment. It's not as though I don't feel a sureness about myself — well, I don't all the time, but I do for at least some portion of everyday — I think it's the Look At Me or Look at This that I feel, when I see red.

Red is about Stop, and Look ...

Perhaps I wear the colours of the observer. The people that need to see me, they see me. If everyone is looking at me, how can I observe? How can I watch the way a neck turns, or all of the unspoken words that are wrapped up in her arm reaching for his shoulder. Or the quick and comfortable smile between two people who truly know who they are to each other. How can I sit quietly sketching the 2 robins pecking at seeds in the grass, hopping away from each other and hopping back towards each other, chirping and whirring softly to each other.

Red is motion . . .

Red is motion, even when still . . .

Red is important, even when small . . .

Red is breathless . . .

and Red is tradition . . .

To bring it back to fashion, where I started — Gwyneth Paltrow has been quoted as saying: "Beauty to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick."

red is one of my favorite colors and i do think i stand taller when i wear it. it also helps that it's a color that suits my coloring. even my glasses are red (well garnet).
