A good waking is a waking full of hearing, subtle seeing, and anticipation: the birdsong outside the house, the luminous tone of the first spring light though shutters, or the sight of a partner's face familiar and coming slowly to life again. A good waking has us listening and seeing in such a way that we are not immediately the center of the world, where we have time for the blessing of things as they are. A good waking is a spacious entry into a day where we are especially free from everything that needs to be done.

How often do you have a "good waking"?
I am making a mental, interior "note-to-self", right now:
Dear self,
Please make room for more spacious beginnings of our days. Please allow ourself to wake slowly, and come alive again, without the need to jump right into the calculations, ruminations and plannings of the day to come.
Yours truly,
Self

too often it's an alarm at too early in the morning... perhaps this can be changed.

So true! You know how sometimes you wake up and just feel recharged and ready to go? Why don't we feel like that all the time?
